The question, in short
Amelie has 7 metres of ribbon and each decoration uses 45 centimetres. Find the greatest number of decorations she can make.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 3 marks
- 1Work in the same units: 7 metres = 7 × 100 = 700 cm
- 2Number of decorations = 700 ÷ 45
- 3700 ÷ 45 = 15.55...
- 4Only whole decorations can be made, so round down to 15
- 5Check: 15 × 45 = 675 cm used, leaving 25 cm, which is not enough for another decoration
- 6The greatest number of decorations Amelie can make is 15
