Part (a) · 1 mark
Identify the number indicated by the arrow on the number line between 12 and 14.
- 1Between 12 and 13 the line is split into 5 equal intervals
- 2Each small interval is 1 ÷ 5 = 0.2
- 3The arrow is 3 intervals to the right of 12
- 412 + 3 × 0.2 = 12.6
Answer12.6
Part (b) · 1 mark
Using the scales dial, find how many kilograms under 6 kg the parcel weighs.
- 1Between each numbered kilogram the dial has 5 small divisions, so each one is 1 ÷ 5 = 0.2 kg
- 2The pointer is 3 small divisions past 4, so the parcel weighs 4 + 3 × 0.2 = 4.6 kg
- 36 − 4.6 = 1.4
- 4The parcel weighs 1.4 kilograms less than 6 kg
Answer1.4
