Part (a) · 1 mark
Find how many Retrievers Lucy saw, using the symbols shown for that breed and the key.
- 1There are 3 and a half symbols for Retrievers.
- 2Each symbol represents 8 dogs.
- 33.5 × 8 = 28
Answer28
Part (b) · 1 mark
Draw symbols for 10 Spaniels on the pictogram, using the key to work out the amount.
- 1The key shows that one full symbol represents 8 dogs
- 2A symbol is made of 4 small squares, so one small square represents 8 ÷ 4 = 2 dogs
- 310 ÷ 2 = 5, so 10 spaniels need 5 small squares
- 45 small squares is one full symbol (4 squares) and one more small square
- 5On the Spaniel row draw one full symbol and one small square
Answer1 full symbol and 1 small square (5 small squares in total)
Part (c) · 1 mark
Work out how many more Cockapoos than Bulldogs Lucy saw, using the pictogram.
- 1Key: one full symbol = 8 dogs, so a quarter of a symbol = 2 dogs
- 2Cockapoos: 4¼ symbols = 4.25 × 8 = 34 dogs
- 3Bulldogs: 1¾ symbols = 1.75 × 8 = 14 dogs
- 4Difference: 34 − 14 = 20
