WMA11/01 Oct 2022, Question 3: Equation of a Line Through Two Points
Pearson Edexcel International AS Level Mathematics · Pure Mathematics 1 (WMA11) · Calculator · 5 marks
The question, in short
Share price modelled by V = pt + q, with values £1.05 at t = 3 and £1.65 at t = 5. Find p and q, then find T when V = £2.50 to one decimal place.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 3 marks
Use the two given share prices at t = 3 and t = 5 to find the constants p and q.
- 11.05 = 3p + q and 1.65 = 5p + q
- 2Subtract: 2p = 0.6 ⇒ p = 0.3
- 3q = 1.05 − 0.9 = 0.15
Answerp = 0.3, q = 0.15
Part (b) · 2 marks
Using your model, find the value of T when the share price is £2.50, to one decimal place.
- 12.50 = 0.3T + 0.15
- 20.3T = 2.35
- 3T = 7.83… = 7.8 (1 d.p.)
AnswerT = 7.8
