Part (a) · 3 marks

Fill the four missing opening, closing or hours-open values in the café table, given the 29-hour weekly total.

  1. 1Thursday: 8 am to 4.30 pm = 8 1/2 hours
  2. 2Friday closing: 8.30 am + 7 1/2 hours = 4.00 pm
  3. 3Sunday opening: 3.30 pm − 5 hours = 10.30 am
  4. 4Check: 8 1/2 + 7 1/2 + 8 + 5 = 29 hours
  5. 5Sunday opens 10.30 am, Friday closes 4.00 pm, Thursday open 8 1/2 hours

Part (bii) · 2 marks

Work out the chef's hourly rate, which is 32% more than the waiter's $9.50 per hour.

  1. 1Chef's rate = 9.50 × (100 + 32)/100
  2. 2= 9.50 × 1.32 = $12.54

Calculate change from $20 after buying 2 coffees at $2.50, 1 tea at $2.30 and 3 pizzas at $3.70.

  1. 1Coffee: 2 × 2.50 = $5.00
  2. 2Pizza: 3 × 3.70 = $11.10
  3. 3Total = 5.00 + 2.30 + 11.10 = $18.40
  4. 4Change = 20 − 18.40 = $1.60

Answer1.60
