Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 · Paper 32 (Core) · Calculator · 10 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Using a map with scale 1 cm to 8 km, find distances and bearings between towns R, S, T and plot new points V, C and H.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Measure the length of RS on the drawing and convert it to real kilometres using the scale.

  1. 1RS measures 6 cm on the map
  2. 2Actual distance = 6 × 8 = 48 km

Answer48 (accept 46.4 to 49.6)

Part (b) · 2 marks

Draw the two given bearings from R and T and mark where the lines cross as V.

  1. 1At R, measure 163° clockwise from North and draw a line
  2. 2At T, measure 215° clockwise from North and draw a line
  3. 3V is where the two lines cross; mark it V

AnswerThe position of V correctly marked on the diagram

Part (c) · 3 marks

Convert 1 hour 50 minutes at 24 km/h to a map length, then locate C along ST.

  1. 11 hour 50 minutes = 1 5/6 hours
  2. 2Distance = 24 × 1 5/6 = 44 km
  3. 3On the map: 44 ÷ 8 = 5.5 cm
  4. 4Mark C on ST, 5.5 cm from S

AnswerThe position of C correctly marked on the diagram with correct working seen

Part (d) · 2 marks

Use the given bearing from R to H to determine the reverse direction, R as seen from H.

  1. 1Bearing of R from H = 321 − 180
  2. 2= 141°

Answer141

Part (e) · 1 mark

Express the map scale as a ratio of the form 1 : n, with both quantities in the same unit.

  1. 18 km = 8 × 1000 × 100 = 800000 cm
  2. 2Scale = 1 : 800000

Answer800000
