The question, in short

Three congruent rectangles form a pattern, each turned 90° about a vertex of the previous one. Given A (2, 5) and B (4, 1.5), find the coordinates of C and D.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1Rectangle is 4 − 2 = 2 wide and 5 − 1.5 = 3.5 tall
  2. 2Second rectangle lies flat with top edge on y = 5, from x = 4 to 4 + 3.5 = 7.5, height 2
  3. 3C = (7.5, 5 − 2) = (7.5, 3)
  4. 4Third rectangle stands on C: 2 wide, 3.5 tall
  5. 5D = (7.5 + 2, 3 + 3.5) = (9.5, 6.5)

AnswerC (7.5, 3), D (9.5, 6.5)
