The question, in short

Using ruler and compasses only, construct a rhombus with side 6.5 cm from the given diagonal, keeping all construction arcs visible.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 2 marks

  1. 1The dashed diagonal is 8 cm long, so each half of the rhombus is a triangle with sides 6.5 cm, 6.5 cm and 8 cm.
  2. 2Set compasses to 6.5 cm and draw arcs from each end of the diagonal, above and below it.
  3. 3The two points where the arcs cross are the other two vertices.
  4. 4Join each of these points to both ends of the diagonal with a ruler, leaving the arcs visible.

AnswerAccurate construction of rhombus with sides 6.5 cm and correct construction arcs
