Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Find the coordinates of the midpoint of the line segment joining A (5, −5) and B (9, 3).

  1. 1Midpoint = ((5 + 9)/2, (−5 + 3)/2)
  2. 2= (7, −1)

Answer(7, −1)

Part (b) · 3 marks

Find the length of the line segment AB, where A is (5, −5) and B is (9, 3).

  1. 1AB² = (9 − 5)² + (3 − (−5))²
  2. 2= 4² + 8² = 16 + 64 = 80
  3. 3AB = √80 = 8.944… ≈ 8.94

Answer8.94 or 8.944…
