The question, in short

Expand and simplify the product of three brackets, (x − 2)(2x + 5)(x + 3), giving the result as a simplified polynomial.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1(x − 2)(2x + 5) = 2x² + 5x − 4x − 10 = 2x² + x − 10
  2. 2(2x² + x − 10)(x + 3) = 2x³ + 6x² + x² + 3x − 10x − 30
  3. 3= 2x³ + 7x² − 7x − 30

Answer2x³ + 7x² − 7x − 30
