The question, in short

A stone's mass m is 3.2 kg, rounded to the nearest 100 g. Complete the inequality giving the lower and upper bounds for m.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 2 marks

  1. 1Nearest 100 g = 0.1 kg, so half is 0.05 kg
  2. 23.2 − 0.05 = 3.15, 3.2 + 0.05 = 3.25
  3. 33.15 ≤ m < 3.25

Answer3.15 ≤ m < 3.25
