The question, in short

A sphere and a cone both have radius 8 cm and equal volumes. Work out the cone's height h.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 4 marks

  1. 1Sphere: V = 4/3 × π × 8³
  2. 2Cone: V = 1/3 × π × 8² × h
  3. 34/3 × π × 8³ = 1/3 × π × 8² × h
  4. 4h = 4 × 8³ ÷ 8² = 4 × 8
  5. 5h = 32 cm
