The question, in short

A pentagon is formed from two congruent trapeziums with height 11.4 cm, base 14 cm and vertical sides x cm; given total area 130.2 cm², find x.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1Each trapezium has width 14 ÷ 2 = 7 cm and parallel sides x and 11.4
  2. 2Area = 2 × 1/2 × 7 × (x + 11.4) = 130.2
  3. 37(x + 11.4) = 130.2, so x + 11.4 = 18.6
  4. 4x = 7.20
