Part (ai) · 2 marks
Expand and simplify 4(x + 3) + 2(x − 1).
- 14x + 12 + 2x − 2
- 2= 6x + 10
Answer6x + 10
Part (aii) · 2 marks
Expand and simplify (m − 6)(m − 4).
- 1m² − 4m − 6m + 24
- 2= m² − 10m + 24
Answerm² − 10m + 24
Part (b) · 2 marks
Rearrange p = 4t + 3 to make t the subject.
- 1p − 3 = 4t
- 2t = (p − 3)/4
Answer(p − 3)/4
Part (c) · 3 marks
Triangle sides are 4x − 15, 2x + 1 and x, with perimeter 49 cm; find x.
- 1(4x − 15) + (2x + 1) + x = 49
- 27x − 14 = 49
- 37x = 63, x = 9
