Part (a) · 1 mark
Find the median number of coins from the frequency table for the 20 students.
- 120 values: median is the mean of the 10th and 11th
- 2Cumulative frequencies 3, 4, 11: the 10th and 11th are both 2
- 3Median = 2
Answer2
Part (b) · 3 marks
Calculate the mean number of coins using the values and their frequencies.
- 1Σfx = 0 × 3 + 1 × 1 + 2 × 7 + 3 × 8 + 4 × 0 + 5 × 0 + 6 × 1 = 1 + 14 + 24 + 6 = 45
- 2Mean = 45 ÷ 20 = 2.25
