The question, in short

Office of 47 workers; sets C (coffee) and T (tea). Given 32 tea drinkers, 6 tea only, 8 in neither. Complete the Venn diagram, find n(C ∩ T), and find the probability a random worker does not drink coffee.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Fill in the missing region values on the Venn diagram using 47 total, 32 tea drinkers, 6 tea only and 8 in neither.

  1. 1C ∩ T = 32 − 6 = 26
  2. 2C only = 47 − 8 − 32 = 7
  3. 3C only 7, C ∩ T 26

AnswerC only: 7 C ∩ T: 26

Part (b) · 1 mark

State the number of workers in the intersection of C and T.

  1. 1n(C ∩ T) = 26

Answer26

Part (c) · 1 mark

Calculate the probability that a randomly chosen worker does not drink coffee.

  1. 1Do not drink coffee = 6 + 8 = 14
  2. 2P = 14/47

Answer14/47
