The question, in short

Grid shows rectangle A at (1,1),(3,1),(3,2),(1,2) and rectangle B at (−2,1),(−1,1),(−1,3),(−2,3). Describe the single transformation mapping A to B, then draw A reflected in y = −1.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 3 marks

Describe fully the single transformation that maps rectangle A onto rectangle B.

  1. 1(1, 1) → (−1, 1), (3, 1) → (−1, 3), (3, 2) → (−2, 3): each (x, y) → (−y, x)
  2. 2Rotation, 90° anticlockwise, centre (0, 0)

AnswerRotation, 90° anticlockwise, centre (0, 0)

Part (b) · 2 marks

Draw the image of shape A after reflection in the line y = −1.

  1. 1Mirror line is y = −1. Each x stays the same.
  2. 2y = 1 is 2 above the line, so it goes 2 below: y = −3
  3. 3y = 2 is 3 above the line, so it goes 3 below: y = −4
  4. 4Rectangle with vertices at (1, −3) (3, −3) (3, −4) (1, −4)

AnswerRectangle with vertices at (1, −3) (3, −3) (3, −4) (1, −4)
