The question, in short

For a circle with centre O and radius 12 cm, where angle AOB is 60°, find the minor sector's area and the major arc AB length, both as simplified multiples of π.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Find the area of the smaller sector AOB, giving the result as a simplified multiple of π.

  1. 1Area = 60/360 × π × 12²
  2. 2= 1/6 × 144π = 24π cm²

Answer24π

Part (b) · 3 marks

Work out how long the larger arc AB is, expressing the answer as a simplified multiple of π.

  1. 1Major arc angle = 360 − 60 = 300°
  2. 2Arc = 300/360 × 2 × π × 12
  3. 3= 5/6 × 24π = 20π cm

Answer20π
