0580/32 Oct/Nov 2025, Question 4: Coordinates and Plotting Points

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 · Paper 32 (Core) · Calculator · 3 marks

The question, in short

Using a grid from −4 to 4 with point P marked, find P's coordinates, draw y = x, and draw a perpendicular line through P.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 1 mark

State the coordinates of the marked point P on the grid.

  1. 1P is 2 left and 3 up from the origin: (−2, 3)

Answer−2, 3

Part (b) · 1 mark

Draw the straight line y = x on the grid.

  1. 1Plot points with equal coordinates, e.g. (−4, −4), (0, 0), (4, 4)
  2. 2Draw a ruled line through them: y = x

Answercorrect ruled line y=x

Part (c) · 1 mark

Draw a line through P that is perpendicular to y = x.

  1. 1Perpendicular to y = x means gradient −1
  2. 2Through P(−2, 3): 3 = −1 × (−2) + c, so c = 1
  3. 3Draw the ruled line y = −x + 1, e.g. through (−2, 3), (0, 1), (1, 0)

Answercorrect ruled line y=−x +1
