The question, in short
Using the grid showing shapes A and B, identify the single transformation taking A to B, then plot A's reflection across y = 0.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 3 marks
State the one transformation, with all its details, that carries shape A onto shape B.
- 1A is turned a quarter turn, so it is a rotation
- 2(−4, 2) → (2, 4), (−2, 2) → (2, 2), (−1, 3) → (3, 1): (x, y) → (y, −x)
- 3That is a rotation of 90° clockwise about (0, 0)
- 4Rotation, centre (0, 0), 90° clockwise
AnswerRotation, centre (0, 0), 90° clockwise
Part (b) · 2 marks
Draw on the grid the result of reflecting shape A in the line y = 0.
- 1y = 0 is the x-axis: keep x, change the sign of y
- 2(−4, 2) → (−4, −2), (−2, 2) → (−2, −2)
- 3(−1, 3) → (−1, −3), (−3, 3) → (−3, −3)
- 4Join the four image points
AnswerPoints plotted at (−4, −2), (−2, −2), (−3, −3), (−1, −3)
