The question, in short

Solve the inequality (3 − x)(5x + 8) ≥ 9 − 3x, giving the full set of values of x that satisfy it.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 4 marks

  1. 115x + 24 − 5x² − 8x ≥ 9 − 3x
  2. 25x² − 10x − 15 ≤ 0, i.e. x² − 2x − 3 ≤ 0
  3. 3(x − 3)(x + 1) ≤ 0
  4. 4Critical values −1 and 3
  5. 5−1 ≤ x ≤ 3

Answer−1 ≤ x ≤ 3
