The question, in short

Given x = 2 − 3 sin θ and y = 3 cot²θ for −1 ≤ x ≤ 1, express y in terms of x.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 4 marks

  1. 1sin θ = (2 − x)/3
  2. 2y = 3 cos²θ/sin²θ = 3(1 − sin²θ)/sin²θ
  3. 3= 3(1/sin²θ − 1)
  4. 4y = 3(9/(2 − x)² − 1)

Answery = 3(9/(2 − x)² − 1)
