The question, in short
Factorise two algebraic expressions: a four-term expression with variables a, x, y, c, and a quadratic in x.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Factorise 5ax − 3ay − 10cx + 6cy by grouping terms.
- 1a(5x − 3y) − 2c(5x − 3y)
- 2= (5x − 3y)(a − 2c)
Answer(5x − 3y)(a − 2c)
Part (b) · 2 marks
Factorise the quadratic 15x² − 7x − 4.
- 115 × (−4) = −60 = −12 × 5
- 215x² − 12x + 5x − 4 = 3x(5x − 4) + 1(5x − 4)
- 3= (3x + 1)(5x − 4)
Answer(3x + 1)(5x − 4)
