The question, in short

Simplify the algebraic fraction (3x² − 12)/(2x² + 11x + 14), showing factorisation of numerator and denominator.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 4 marks

  1. 13x² − 12 = 3(x² − 4) = 3(x + 2)(x − 2)
  2. 22x² + 11x + 14 = (2x + 7)(x + 2)
  3. 33(x + 2)(x − 2)/((2x + 7)(x + 2)) = 3(x − 2)/(2x + 7)

Answer(3(x−2))/(2x+7) or (3x−6)/(2x+7)
