Part (a) · 3 marks

f varies inversely as h², and f = −3/4 when h = 2. Find f when h = −5.

  1. 1f = k/h²
  2. 2−3/4 = k/2², so k = −3
  3. 3f = −3/(−5)²
  4. 4= −3/25 = −0.12

Answer−0.12

Part (b) · 1 mark

c varies directly as d². If d is made 4 times bigger, by what number is c multiplied?

  2. 2If d becomes 4d, c becomes k(4d)² = 16kd²
  3. 3c is multiplied by 16
