اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

From a cumulative frequency graph of test scores (cumulative frequency up to 40, scores 30 to 70), estimate the median and the pass mark when 60% pass.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 1 mark

Read the median score off the cumulative frequency curve.

  1. 1Total = 40 students
  2. 2Median at cumulative frequency 20
  3. 3Read across from 20 to the curve and down: ≈ 52

Answer52 to 52.5

Part (b) · 2 marks

Using the graph, work out the lowest score that counts as a pass, given that 60% of students pass.

  1. 160% of 40 = 24 students pass
  2. 2So 40 − 24 = 16 students fail
  3. 3Read across from 16 to the curve and down
  4. 4Minimum pass score ≈ 47.5
