The question, in short

D is (3, −2) and E is (−1, 8). Find the vector from D to E, then use a given vector from F to E to find the coordinates of F.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Find the column vector →DE using the coordinates of D and E.

  1. 1→DE = E − D
  2. 2= column vector (−1 − 3, 8 − (−2))
  3. 3= column vector (−4, 10)

Answercolumn vector (−4, 10)

Part (b) · 2 marks

Given →FE = (2, −4), work out the coordinates of point F.

  1. 1→FE = E − F, so F = E − →FE
  2. 2F = (−1 − 2, 8 − (−4))
  3. 3F = (−3, 12)

Answer(−3, 12)
