The question, in short

Parallelogram OABC with CB given as y = x + 2; find the remaining three inequalities defining the interior and calculate the parallelogram's area.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Write down the other three inequalities that define the region inside parallelogram OABC, given y < x + 2.

  1. 1OA is parallel to CB and passes through O, so OA is y = x; region above it: y > x
  2. 2OC is the y-axis: x > 0
  3. 3AB is the line x = 4: x < 4
  4. 4x > 0, x < 4, y > x

Answerx > 0, x < 4, y > x

Part (b) · 1 mark

Calculate the area of parallelogram OABC.

  1. 1Base OC = 2 (y-intercept of y = x + 2), perpendicular width = 4
  2. 2Area = 2 × 4 = 8
