The question, in short

Three algebra tasks: factorise 4p + 6pq fully, expand and simplify (e + 3)(e − 5), and solve y = (2y + 1)/5 showing algebraic working.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Factorise 4p + 6pq completely.

  1. 1Both terms have a factor of 2 and a factor of p
  2. 24p + 6pq = 2p × 2 + 2p × 3q
  3. 3So the answer is 2p(2 + 3q)

Answer2p(2 + 3q)

Part (b) · 2 marks

Expand and simplify the product (e + 3)(e − 5).

  1. 1Expand: (e + 3)(e − 5) = e² − 5e + 3e − 15
  2. 2−5e + 3e = −2e
  3. 3So the answer is e² − 2e − 15

Answere² − 2e − 15

Part (c) · 3 marks

Solve y = (2y + 1)/5, showing clear algebraic working.

  1. 1Multiply both sides by 5: 5y = 2y + 1
  2. 2Collect the y terms: 5y − 2y = 1, so 3y = 1
  3. 3y = 1/3
