The question, in short
Using a frequency density histogram of watermelon weights from 7 kg to 12 kg, with 16 watermelons in the 8–8.5 kg class, find how many watermelons are in the field altogether.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Solution · 3 marks
- 1The 8 to 8.5 bar is 0.5 kg wide with 16 melons: frequency density = 16 ÷ 0.5 = 32
- 2On that scale the other bars have frequency densities 15, 23, 30 and 12
- 3Frequency = density × width: 15 × 1, 23 × 1, 30 × 1, 12 × 1.5 = 15, 23, 30, 18
- 4Total = 15 + 16 + 23 + 30 + 18 = 102
