The question, in short
Solve two inequalities and equations: one linear inequality in y and one equation in x involving a fraction, showing algebraic working.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Find the range of values of y satisfying 4y + 5 > 12.
- 14y + 5 > 12
- 24y > 12 − 5
- 34y > 7
- 4y > 7/4
Answery > 7/4
Part (b) · 3 marks
Solve 6x − 5 = (4x − 7)/2 for x, showing clear algebraic working.
- 1(6x − 5)/1 = (4x − 7)/2
- 22(6x − 5) = 4x − 7
- 312x − 10 = 4x − 7
- 412x − 4x = −7 + 10
- 58x = 3
- 6x = 3/8
Answer3/8
