The question, in short

Complete a table of values for y = 6/x and then plot the graph of y = 6/x for 0.5 ≤ x ≤ 6 on the given grid.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Fill in the missing y values in the table for y = 6/x at the given x values.

  1. 1Each missing y value is 6 ÷ x
  2. 2x = 0.5: y = 6 ÷ 0.5 = 12
  3. 3x = 2: y = 6 ÷ 2 = 3
  4. 4x = 4: y = 6 ÷ 4 = 1.5 and x = 5: y = 6 ÷ 5 = 1.2
  5. 5Missing values: 12, 3, 1.5, 1.2

Answer12, 3, 1.5, 1.2

Part (b) · 2 marks

Draw the curve y = 6/x on the grid for x from 0.5 to 6.

  1. 1Plot the points (0.5, 12), (1, 6), (2, 3), (3, 2), (4, 1.5), (5, 1.2), (6, 1)
  2. 2Join the 7 points with a smooth decreasing curve
  3. 3Ensure the curve passes through all correct points within tolerance
  4. 4Ignore any part of the graph outside x = 0.5 to x = 6

AnswerA smooth decreasing curve through (0.5, 12), (1, 6), (2, 3), (3, 2), (4, 1.5), (5, 1.2), (6, 1)
