The question, in short
Four short algebra tasks: expand a product, factorise an expression, rearrange a formula for m, and solve a linear equation showing working.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Multiply out x(10 − x).
- 1x(10 − x) = 10x − x²
Answer10x − x²
Part (b) · 1 mark
Factorise 6y + 27.
- 16y + 27 = 3(2y + 9)
Answer3(2y + 9)
Part (c) · 2 marks
Rearrange h = m/2 + 4 to make m the subject.
- 1h = m/2 + 4
- 2h − 4 = m/2
- 32(h − 4) = m
- 4m = 2h − 8
Answerm = 2h − 8
Part (d) · 3 marks
Solve 7g + 3 = 2g − 5, showing clear algebraic working.
- 17g + 3 = 2g − 5
- 27g − 2g = −5 − 3
- 35g = −8
- 4g = −8/5
Answer−8/5
