The question, in short
Two similar cylinders A and B are shown; A has height 1.6 m and radius 0.56 m, B has height 0.6 m. Find A's curved surface area and B's radius.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Calculate the curved surface area of cylinder A, giving the value in m² to 3 significant figures.
- 1Curved surface area of a cylinder = 2πrh.
- 22 × π × 0.56 × 1.6 = 5.6298...
- 3To 3 significant figures: 5.63
Answer5.63
Part (b) · 2 marks
Using similarity between the cylinders, determine the radius of cylinder B.
- 1Length scale factor = 0.6 ÷ 1.6 = 0.375
- 2Radius of B = 0.375 × 0.56 = 0.21
Answer0.21
