The question, in short

For two similar cylinders A and B, use A's dimensions 1.6 m height and 0.56 m radius, with B's height 0.6 m, to calculate a surface area and a radius.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 2 marks

Calculate the curved surface area of cylinder A, giving the result in m² to 3 significant figures.

  1. 1Curved surface area of a cylinder = 2πrh.
  2. 22 × π × 0.56 × 1.6 = 5.6298...
  3. 3To 3 significant figures: 5.63

Answer5.63

Part (b) · 2 marks

Using the similarity of the cylinders and B's height of 0.6 m, determine the radius of cylinder B.

  1. 1Length scale factor = 0.6 ÷ 1.6 = 0.375
  2. 2Radius of B = 0.56 × 0.375 = 0.21

Answer0.21
