Part (a) · 2 marks
Expand and simplify (n − 6)(n + 4).
- 1Expand: (n − 6)(n + 4) = n² + 4n − 6n − 24
- 24n − 6n = −2n
- 3So the answer is n² − 2n − 24
Answern² − 2n − 24
Part (b) · 3 marks
Solve 2x − 3 = (3x − 5)/4, showing clear algebraic working.
- 1Multiply both sides by 4: 4(2x − 3) = 3x − 5
- 2Expand the left side: 8x − 12 = 3x − 5
- 3Collect the x terms: 8x − 3x = −5 + 12, so 5x = 7
- 4x = 7/5
Answer7/5
