The question, in short
Cube ABCDEFGH has 6 cm sides; T is midpoint of AB and V is midpoint of CH. Find the straight-line distance TV through the cube, giving the answer as √a cm.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Solution · 4 marks
- 1Going from T to V you move 3 cm along the cube (T is halfway along AB).
- 2You also move 6 cm down, from top edge AB to bottom edge CH.
- 3And 3 cm into the cube (V is halfway along CH).
- 43D Pythagoras: TV² = 3² + 6² + 3² = 54, so TV = √54 cm
Answer√54 cm
