The question, in short

Using 9 identical L by W tiles arranged in a rectangle ABCD with area 1620 cm², find the values of L and W.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Solution · 5 marks

  1. 19 tiles make 1620 cm², so LW = 1620 ÷ 9 = 180
  2. 2Top and bottom of ABCD match: 5W = 4L, so W = 4L/5
  3. 3L × 4L/5 = 180, so L² = 225 and L = 15
  4. 4W = 4 × 15 ÷ 5 = 12

AnswerL = 15, W = 12
