The question, in short
Using T = 6p − 4d, evaluate T for given p and d, find p for given T and d, and solve a linear equation showing working.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Part (a) · 2 marks
Substitute p = 8 and d = 3 into T = 6p − 4d and calculate T.
- 1T = 6 × 8 − 4 × 3
- 2= 48 − 12 = 36
Answer36
Part (b) · 3 marks
Given T = −41 and d = 5, rearrange T = 6p − 4d to find p.
- 1Substitute: −41 = 6p − 4 × 5 = 6p − 20
- 2Add 20 to both sides: 6p = −21
- 3p = −21/6 = −7/2
Answer−7/2
Part (c) · 3 marks
Solve 4(x − 3) = 7x + 15 for x, showing clear algebraic steps.
- 1Expand: 4x − 12 = 7x + 15
- 2Collect terms: −12 − 15 = 7x − 4x, so 3x = −27
- 3x = −9
