The question, in short
A particle P moves on a straight line through fixed point O with displacement s = t³ + 4t² − 27t + 4 metres at time t seconds, t ≥ 0. Find t when velocity is 8 m/s.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 4 marks
- 1v = ds/dt = 3t² + 8t − 27
- 23t² + 8t − 27 = 8
- 33t² + 8t − 35 = 0
- 4(3t − 7)(t + 5) = 0
- 5t = 7/3 (t = −5 rejected as t ≥ 0)
Answert = 7/3
