4PM1/01R Jun 2025, Question 5: Inequalities and Linear Programming

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1 · Paper 1R · Calculator · 7 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Rectangle has width x cm and length (2x + 3) cm. Given P > 10 and A < 35, find the range of possible x values as a < x < b, showing algebraic working.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 7 marks

  1. 1P = 6x + 6 and A = x(2x + 3)
  2. 26x + 6 > 10, so x > 2/3
  3. 32x² + 3x − 35 < 0
  4. 4(2x − 7)(x + 5) < 0, critical values 7/2 and −5
  5. 5−5 < x < 7/2
  6. 6Combine: 2/3 < x < 7/2

Answer2/3 < x < 7/2
