Part (ai) · 2 marks
Simplify the ratio flour : butter : sugar for a 20-biscuit recipe using 150 g, 125 g and 50 g.
- 1flour : butter : sugar = 150 : 125 : 50
- 2Divide by 25: 6 : 5 : 2
Answer6 : 5 : 2
Part (aii) · 3 marks
Scale the 20-biscuit recipe quantities to find flour, butter and sugar needed for 50 biscuits.
- 1Multiplier = 50 ÷ 20 = 2.5
- 2Flour = 150 × 2.5 = 375 g
- 3Butter = 125 × 2.5 = 312.5 g
- 4Sugar = 50 × 2.5 = 125 g
Answer375, 312.5, 125
Part (bi) · 4 marks
With 600 g flour per loaf and a 16 kg sack, find the maximum loaves and leftover flour in grams.
- 116 kg = 16000 g
- 216000 ÷ 600 = 26.66…, so a maximum of 26 loaves
- 3Flour used = 26 × 600 = 15600 g
- 4Left over = 16000 − 15600 = 400 g
Answer26, 400
Part (bii) · 2 marks
Find the percentage decrease when the sack amount falls from 16 kg to 15 kg.
- 1Decrease = 16 − 15 = 1 kg
- 2Percentage decrease = 1/16 × 100 = 6.25%
Answer6.25
