0580/21 May/Jun 2021, Question 20: Calculating with Bounds

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 · Paper 21 (Extended) · Calculator · 3 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Using a 600 km distance rounded to the nearest 10 km and a time of 8 hours 40 minutes rounded to the nearest 10 minutes, find the lower bound of the average speed in km/h.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1Lower bound of distance = 600 − 5 = 595 km
  2. 2Upper bound of time = 8 h 40 min + 5 min = 8 h 45 min = 8.75 h
  3. 3Lower bound of speed = 595 ÷ 8.75
  4. 4= 68 km/h
