Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Part (a) · 1 mark

Work out how many more people live in Nigeria than in Vietnam, using the given populations.

  1. 12.06 × 10⁸ − 9.73 × 10⁷ = 206 000 000 − 97 300 000
  2. 2= 108 700 000

Answer108 700 000 or 1.087 × 10⁸

Part (b) · 3 marks

Decide whether Comoros or Vietnam is more densely populated, using population divided by area in km² and showing all steps.

  1. 1Comoros: 8.70 × 10⁵ ÷ 1.86 × 10³ = 467.7… people per km²
  2. 2Vietnam: 9.73 × 10⁷ ÷ 3.10 × 10⁵ = 313.9… people per km²
  3. 3467.7 > 313.9, so Comoros has the greater population density
