The question, in short
Given y inversely proportional to the cube of (x − 1), with y = 9.45 at x = 3, find y when x = 4.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.
Solution · 3 marks
- 1y = k/(x − 1)³
- 29.45 = k/(3 − 1)³, so k = 9.45 × 8 = 75.6
- 3y = 75.6/(4 − 1)³ = 75.6/27
- 4y = 2.8
