The question, in short

Using two sectors with centre O and angle 140°, OC = 3.2 cm and CB = 2.6 cm, find k where the shaded shape ABCD has area kπ cm².

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 3 marks

  1. 1OB = 3.2 + 2.6 = 5.8 cm
  2. 2Area = 140/360 × π × 5.8² − 140/360 × π × 3.2²
  3. 3= 7/18 × π × (33.64 − 10.24)
  4. 4= 7/18 × 23.4 × π = 9.1π
  5. 5k = 9.1
