The question, in short
Geetha picks a toy at random; wooden toy probability is 0.6. Find the probability of not picking wooden, then complete a table of toy types with plastic and metal counts of 14.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (a) · 1 mark
Work out the probability that the chosen toy is not wooden.
- 1P(not wooden) = 1 − 0.6 = 0.4
Answer0.4
Part (b) · 2 marks
Complete the table giving the number of wooden toys and the probabilities for plastic and metal.
- 1Plastic and metal share 0.4 equally (14 each): 0.4 ÷ 2 = 0.2 each
- 214 toys ↔ 0.2, so total = 14 ÷ 0.2 = 70 toys
- 3Wooden = 0.6 × 70 = 42
- 4Wooden 42, 0.6; Plastic 14, 0.2; Metal 14, 0.2
Answer| Type of toy | Wooden | Plastic | Metal | | Number of toys | 42 | 14 | 14 | | Probability | 0.6 | 0.2 | 0.2 |
