0580/22 May/Jun 2025, Question 24: Simultaneous Equations with a Curve

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 · Paper 22 (Extended) · Non-calculator · 5 marks

اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←

The question, in short

Solve the simultaneous equations for the line y = 7x + 3 and the curve y = x² + 5x − 12 to find the coordinates of the two intersection points A and B.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and any diagrams.

Solution · 5 marks

  1. 1x² + 5x − 12 = 7x + 3
  2. 2x² − 2x − 15 = 0
  3. 3(x − 5)(x + 3) = 0, so x = 5 or x = −3
  4. 4x = 5: y = 7 × 5 + 3 = 38; x = −3: y = 7 × (−3) + 3 = −18
  5. 5(5, 38) and (−3, −18)

Answer(5, 38) and (−3, −18)
