Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 · Paper 32 (Core) · Calculator · 7 marks
اقرأ هذا الحل مشروحاً بالعربي ←
The question, in short
Combine data from a partially drawn bar chart (Biology 9, Physics 7) and a pie chart with a 120° Chemistry sector to finish both charts, then state a benefit of bar charts over pie charts.
Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.
Part (ai) · 2 marks
Using the pie chart's Chemistry sector of 120°, work out the missing Chemistry bar height and draw it on the bar chart.
- 1Chemistry sector 120° = 120/360 = 1/3 of the students
- 2So Biology + Physics = 9 + 7 = 16 students = 2/3 of the total
- 3Chemistry = 16 ÷ 2 = 8 students
- 4Draw the Chemistry bar to height 8
AnswerBar for Chemistry drawn height 8
Part (aii) · 4 marks
Using the bar chart's Biology 9 and Physics 7, find the angles for those sectors and complete the pie chart.
- 1Total = 8 + 9 + 7 = 24 students, so each student = 360 ÷ 24 = 15°
- 2Biology = 9 × 15 = 135°
- 3Physics = 7 × 15 = 105°
- 4Draw sectors of 135° (Biology) and 105° (Physics) next to the 120° Chemistry sector
AnswerPie chart correctly drawn
Part (b) · 1 mark
State one reason why reading results is easier from a bar chart than from a pie chart.
- 1A bar chart shows the actual frequencies, whereas a pie chart only shows the proportions
AnswerBar chart gives the frequencies whereas pie chart only gives proportions
