The question, in short

A net of six rectangles is drawn on a 1 cm² grid, with point X at a corner. Name the solid and mark the two other points that meet at X when folded.

Summarised in our own words. Use the official paper for the exact wording and the diagram.

Part (a) · 1 mark

Give the mathematical name of the solid formed by folding this net.

  1. 1All six faces are rectangles, in opposite pairs 2×4, 3×4, 2×3
  2. 2The solid is a cuboid

AnswerCuboid

Part (b) · 2 marks

On the diagram, mark with an X the two other points that meet at point X when the net is folded.

  1. 1Take the 3 × 4 rectangle as the base; the 2 × 3 face with X folds up as the back face
  2. 2X is the back corner on the right-hand side at the bottom of the cuboid
  3. 3This corner is also the top-right corner of the 3 × 4 base rectangle
  4. 4and the top-right corner of the 4 × 2 side rectangle

AnswerX at the top-right corner of the 3 × 4 rectangle and X at the top-right corner of the 4 × 2 rectangle (the corner shared by the 4 × 2 and 4 × 3 rectangles' right-hand ends)
